South Africa’s very first Butterfly Census Weekend (BCW) will take place on the weekend of 24-25 April 2010.

All butterfly species observed by teams (including school teams) over the weekend at any specific locality are noted and counted. The BCW forms part of the Southern African Butterfly Conservation Assessment project, a joint project of the Animal Demography Unit (University of Cape Town), the Lepidopterists’ Society of Africa and the South African National Biodiversity Institute.
