| What makes Nkwichi Lodge special |
| Located on the eastern shores of the stunning Lake Niassa (Lake Malawi). | | Completely remote, only accessible via the lake by boat, ferry or yacht. | | Intimate, high-class accommodation establishment run by its owners and friendly staff, accommodating a maximum of 14 guests, therefore providing personal attention to each guest. | | Supports the Manda Wilderness Agricultural Project, which aims to improve nutrition of the local communities through better agricultural production and practices. | | Manda Wilderness actively raises funds abroad, within Mozambique and through tourism to pay for development projects, which the communities themselves select. These projects have thus far provided 5 schools, 1 maize mill and a medical clinic to local communities. |
Nkwichi Lodge lies in the Manda Wilderness Game Reserve on the Mozambique shores at one of the most beautiful points on Lake Niassa. When you arrive by boat from the lake (there are no roads) you would never know there is human habitation. As you stand on the remote sandy beach looking out over the blue water it feels as though you are looking out to sea – it's an enormous expanse of crystal clear water shimmering in the bright sunshine.
The lodge has seven chalets, allowing only 14 guests to stay at any one time. Each chalet is designed differently. Some are built around rocks and trees surrounding the chalet. All of them are spacious, catching the breezes that blow from the lake under the shady thatched roofs. The bathrooms have showers hung from overhanging branches and bathtubs so that guests can lie back and relax as the sun goes down.
Meals are an important part of everyday life at Nkwichi. No two meals are ever the same with the chef's delicious range of recipes and the numerous locations where guests can dine for different meals.
This land and freshwater lake environment provides a wonderful opportunity for guests to explore. Activities include swimming & snorkelling, canoeing, sailing, guided walks, visits to the local Manda Wilderness Community Projects (MWCP) and finally relaxing on the white sandy beach.
Nkwichi prides itself on practising responsible methods of tourism development. By coming to stay at the lodge guests are contributing to nature and the community development. MWCP has funded and built schools, medical clinics, agricultural projects and sports clubs in the local area.
We are running a 2010 Special Offer of 5 nights for the price of 4 (excluding the month of August).
