Perched above the banks of a thickly forested river in the heart of the Masai Mara Reserve, Mara Explorer offers the ultimate wilderness retreat, where you can watch elephants and antelope bathing from the privacy of your verandah or your outdoor Victorian bathtub!
Since its construction in 2001, Mara Explorer has become synonymous with luxury safaris in the finest tradition of Africa's 'original safari land'. Our hand-picked guides are among the best in the business, with full qualifications from the Professional Safari Guides Association. When you arrive, you are allocated a personal guide for the duration of your stay ensuring you can pursue a different species or wilderness 'lesson' on each day of your safari.
And the wildlife! Our presence at the confluence of the Mara's four game-viewing areas ensures our guests have easy access to some of the greatest wildlife spectacles on the planet guaranteed! The fact that Big Cat Diary chose this area in which to film 75% of its last series shows just how highly the area is rated among wildlife professionals. Explorer's head guide is also responsible for writing a globally circulated Migration Update during the famous Mara migration, which sees over a million wildebeest and zebra traipse past our camp between July and October.
Explorer offers 10 lavish, open-air double tents, each with its own private river frontage. The tents are furnished in a classic 'Explorer' style, with fine mahogany furniture and historic prints, and a personal claws-foot bathtub offering a unique perspective over the African bush!
