Kafunta Safaris is owner run by Ron & Anke Cowan, with over 15 years' experience in the Safari industry in the Luangwa Valley. We pride ourselves in our high attention to detail and will provide an ultimate wilderness safari for you.
Kafunta River Lodge is set in the riverside forest on the banks of the Luangwa River overlooking the South Luangwa National Park. Kafunta’s accommodation is of the highest standard in the valley. This classical Safari Lodge offers its clients all the comforts, while being situated in the unspoilt wilderness. Kafunta consistently ensures high standards of personalised service and the attention to the finest of details. The 8 private chalets are built on raised wooden platforms and have thatched roofs. Mahogany floors and walls add natural beauty to the luxurious interiors. The 2 luxury suites feature an upstairs viewing verandah, a downstairs balcony and a luxurious bathroom with double sinks, two showers and a free-standing bath.
Our qualified guides take you on daily safaris into the game-rich Mfuwe area, where you come up close to the wildlife and the night drives offer the opportunity to view nocturnal animals including leopard.
Kafunta River Lodge's pool and the only Natural hot tub in the Luangwa Valley offer the ideal place to relax between safaris and gaze at the stunning views over the flood plains teaming with game.
Kafunta Safaris also operates Island Bush Camp in the very south of the national park. This camp is built on the bank of the Luangwa River and offers comfortable accommodation in grass-and-canvas chalets that are raised off the ground to allow open views. Island Bush Camp is a great base for walking safaris, which can be done daily in the company of knowledgeable guides and armed scouts. This is the unlimited wildlife experience.
