Kapama Private Game Reserve is the one of the best game reserves for an African safari amongst the Big 5 animals of Africa and is situated within the Greater Kruger National Park wilderness area, just 4½ hours drive northeast of Johannesburg.
It is one of South Africa’s largest privately owned game reserves, perfectly positioned in the Limpopo province safari area and renowned for its high density of big game animals. A game drive in Kapama Game Reserve, with a qualified ranger and expert tracker, reveals wild animals and many secrets of the African bush.
There are three styles of safari accommodation, each creating a distinctly different safari experience:
Kapama Lodge - a luxurious traditional safari lodge with air-conditioned thatched chalets positioned around a lake fringed with reeds. Calm atmosphere, good dining and friendly staff. Sweeping views across a tranquil lake create a sentiment of feel-good as soon as you arrive at 5-star Kapama Lodge. Rambling natural growth at the water’s edge contrasts with tended gardens and lawns nibbled by wandering nyala antelope. Thatched viewing decks overlooking the water ensure instant relaxation here.
Kapama River Lodge – an impressive and elegant large safari lodge that can accommodate groups without compromising its high standards. Contemporary African décor in double volume thatch lounges create a cavernous effect and the open plan design extends to the pool deck with a large rim-flow pool looking towards a waterhole. Kapama River Lodge is situated within Kapama Game Reserve, and presents the perfect blend between luxurious safari accommodation and a generous bed capacity of 42 bedrooms. Although large, it is so stylish and roomy and beautifully positioned, that guests fall in love with it.
Kapama Buffalo Camp - timeless tented safari style for only 16 guests, with en-suite rooms perched on platforms high above the riverbed and connected to each other by wooden walkways. This is a favourite because of its intimate rustic feel and al-fresco dinners around the open fire. The communal areas of Buffalo Camp are on the riverbank, where gardens of succulent aloes and euphorbia are tended around the thatched bar, dining room, pool terrace and campfire. But the thick African bush is just a glance away, inhabited by animals like lion, hyena and jackal whose calls can be heard in the dead of night. Lanterns, rather than electric lights, glow at night under the trees, creating a special intimate ambience.
Kapama Game Reserve is so well positioned, not too far from habitation but still deep in the bush, and offers guests a truly superior range of activities. Two game drives per day and an optional bush walk is included in the all-inclusive Kapama safari package. All other activities are not included and will charged as extras.
Here’s a quick guide as to what activities are on offer:
