Near the market town of Sbeitla, previously called Sufetula, lie
the ruins of an ancient Roman city that once, for a very short time, functioned as a regional capital in this small North African country. Many Roman and Byzantine buildings are still visible at Sufetula, and its forum is said to be the best preserved in the world. Large public baths, dating back to the third century BC, opened to this palaestra or exercise yard, with its beautiful mosaic-tiled floor.
In which African country are the ruins of Sufetula?
