Animal Demography Unit (ADU)
If your passion is to be out in the field and to be involved in projects which make a difference, then the ADU is
where you want to be. Citizen scientists are the eyes and ears of the ADU, and we use the data submitted to produce
conservation assessments for species. The outcomes feed into “state of the environment” reports and ultimately influence
conservation policy. The ADU currently has citizen science projects running on birds, butterflies and reptiles.

Zoological Society of South Africa
The ZSSA was founded in 1959 to promote, facilitate and encourage zoological research in southern Africa.
To this end, the ZSSA assists in the co-ordination of zoological research in southern Africa through
congresses, meetings and publications. Members receive African Zoology, a scientific journal published twice a
year that reports original research on southern African fauna and Aardvark, the societal news letter. Members are
also able to attend ZSSA conferences at a reduced rate, and benefit from being kept up-to-date on developments
in southern African zoology.
